Dresden Elbland is a region for explorers and connoisseurs. This is also reflected in the culinary landscape. Three of the seven restaurants in Saxony that have been awarded a Michelin star are located in Dresden Elbland. Three other gourmet restaurants are also well on their way to the coveted star.
The chefs of Dresden’s gourmet scene demonstrate their diverse skills with complex flavor palettes and masterful classics. Locals and tourists alike love the regional star cuisine. If you want to enjoy the fine dining experience, you should definitely book in advance. Whether French finesse or Saxon down-to-earthness: these are the six best fine dining and Michelin-starred restaurants in and around Dresden.
1. gourmet & coziness in the Genuss-Atelier
The Blonkowski siblings’ restaurant in Dresden’s Neustadt district serves casual Michelin-starred cuisine. At the Genuss-Atelier, Nicole takes care of the hospitality and her brother Marcus takes care of the cooking. Although their gourmet restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star in the Guide since 2019, they refrain from excessive pomp and ostentation in the kitchen and interior. Despite dining at the highest level, guests do not have to sacrifice comfort in the vaulted cellar with its thick sandstone walls. The same applies to the kitchen: Marcus Blonkowski cooks what he likes. He focuses on high-quality ingredients rather than a lot of frills. Guests can either eat à la carte or choose a 4 to 8-course surprise menu. Sister Nicole takes care of the wine pairing. She only serves wines from the Elbland and Saale-Unstrut regions.
Anyone who thinks that dining at the Genuss-Atelier is ordinary is mistaken. Marcus Blonkowski was Junior Sous Chef at the prestigious gourmet restaurant at Palais Coburg in Vienna until 2014. Here, his culinary finesse has been awarded two Michelin Guide stars. Marcus Blonkowski’s signature style of excellent cuisine can also be seen in his own restaurant. In contrast to the coarse ambience, the plates are delicately arranged with great attention to detail.
Bautzner Straße 149, 01099 Dresden // Tuesday to Friday 5 pm – 2 pm, Saturday 12 – 3:30 pm & 5 pm – 2 pm // Reservation by phone on 0351 250 28 337 or online
2. french charm in the Atelier Sanssouci
The Villa Sorgenfrei is located to the north of Dresden in the Radebeul villa district. The charming 18th century country estate is home to a hotel as well as the Michelin-starred restaurant Atelier Sanssouci– chef Marcus Langer‘s playground. His creations not only delight hotel guests, but also attract gourmets from all over the world. A visit to the restaurant is reminiscent of a trip to the south of France: the villa’s historic banqueting and garden hall is resplendent in 18th century splendor – with stucco ceilings, murals and chandeliers. In summer, the terrace with a view of the French garden invites you to enjoy your meal.
The French flair is also reflected in Langer’s culinary craft. After the Dresden-born chef initially worked his way up in various positions in Germany and abroad, his path led him back to his roots. Under the wing of star restaurateur Stefan Hermann, Langer was initially head chef at bean&beluga. In 2021, he then took over the position of head chef at Atelier Sanssouci. His signature style on the plate is unmistakable: classic French with a modern twist. Langer relies on a manageable number of ingredients and prefers to go deep rather than wide in terms of flavor. The culinary delights are presented in keeping with the historical charm of Villa Sorgenfrei – classic, with playful details.
Augustusweg 48, 01445 Radebeul // Thursday to Monday 6:30 p.m. – 10 p.m., Sunday 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. // Reservations by phone on 0351 795 666 0 or online
The restaurant Elements in Dresden’s Neustadt district thrives on contrasts: a deli meets fine dining, elegance meets nonchalance and international cuisine meets regional ingredients. Stephan Mießner and his wife Martina Starovičová-Mießner have managed to defend their Michelin Guide star at Elements since 2014 – and initially quite unintentionally. A Michelin-starred restaurant was never the couple’s goal; they simply wanted to create a place to meet up and enjoy good food. In order not to lose this aspect, Elements is two restaurants in one: a deli with good, down-to-earth cuisine and the fine dining restaurant.
The creations in the gourmet restaurant are primarily inspired by the Mießners’ extensive travels. Stephan Mießner initially cooked at various locations in Europe and South Africa before finally returning to his home on the Elbe. Impressions from all over the world are at the heart of the culinary signature at Elements. The fact that the Mießners have an eye for aesthetics is not only evident in the expressive presentation of the dishes. The industrially elegant ambience in an elaborately converted factory barn is also visually impressive.

4. New meeting place for good taste in Patti’s delicatessen canteen
Mario Pattis was the first gourmet chef to win a Michelin star in the East 30 years ago. Three decades later and after stints at the e-Vitrum in the Gläserne Manufaktur, among others, the star chef has opened his own restaurant Mario Pattis Feine Kost with an adjoining bistro Patti’s Feinkost und Kantine. The new meeting place of good taste, located in the middle of the baroque quarter in one of the most beautiful places in Dresden, promises upscale cuisine, but not high-end in price.
From Monday to Friday, the bistro serves lunch dishes and delicacies from its own production as well as from selected colleagues on site and to take away. Mario Pattis, who is one of the most innovative chefs in high-end gourmet cuisine, cooks in the restaurant himself. He offers a three-course menu with three different starters, a choice of meat, fish or vegan main course and a dessert or cheese to finish. The chef, who is known for his hospitality, likes to get his guests in the mood for his creative creations with an aperitif in the kitchen.
The Caroussel Nouvelle in the Hotel Bülow Palais has also discovered the concept of a mixture of bistro and gourmet restaurant. Caroussel is the oldest Michelin-starred restaurant in Dresden. In 2021, it merged with the legendary Bistro Bülow and now offers both classic à la carte dishes and a fine dining gourmet menu. Although the Caroussel Nouvelle lost its Michelin Guide star with the new concept, it continues to impress with first-class food in a stylish ambience.
The Caroussel Nouvelle bears the signature of chef Sven Vogel. The trained carpenter and chef describes his cuisine as “contemporary and cosmopolitan”. He combines French bistro classics with traditional Saxon dishes to create a modern interpretation of regional cuisine. The culinary finesse is also evident in the presentation: the dishes resemble colorful still lifes that are almost too good to eat. However, the creations should definitely be tasted, because behind the artistic façade lies a gourmet experience. The new Caroussel with its cosmopolitan and relaxed flair is also suitable for fans of the former Michelin-starred restaurant in Dresden.
Königstraße 14, 01097 Dresden // Fine dining menu Tuesday to Saturday 18-21:30, classic menu daily from 12-14 and 18-21:30 // Reservations by telephone on 0251 8003-140 or online
6. Heiderand: Newcomer in the starry sky with long tradition
The Heiderand is a tradition – or at least it used to be. Since the former Café Heiderand was handed over from the parents to son Martin Walther, a lot has changed here. The cozy café on the edge of the Dresdner Heide has become a modern restaurant with culinary finesse. With the new head chef, the family business is now in its fourth generation. Martin Walther has been in charge since 2020, supported only by his parents. In the new restaurant, guests can choose between the “wasser&weide” and “acker&beet” (vegetarian) menus or dine à la carte.
The history of the Heiderand is also reflected in the menu. Martin Walther experienced everyday life in the restaurant business from an early age. At some point, however, his parents’ Silesian-Saxon cuisine was no longer enough for him. On his way to becoming a top chef, he cooked at the Genuss-Atelier and Caroussel, among others. In Dresden’s Michelin-starred restaurants, he got to know the world of gourmet cuisine – characterized by modern, international influences. He has combined this experience with his family tradition to create his very own concept of modern Michelin-starred cuisine with Silesian influences. He has already been awarded the Bib Gourmand twice for this. The Dresden gourmet scene is buzzing: The first star is only a matter of time, they say.
