Schönfeld-Weißig is the easternmost municipality in Dresden. The Schönfeld-Weißig area is identical to the geographical term Schönfelder Hochland. The Schönfeld highlands have been popular as an excursion and hiking area since the Romantic era at the latest. By the end of the 19th century, Borsberg, Reitzendorf and Zaschendorf had developed into excursion communities that were about to be awarded the title of “climatic health resort”. In terms of landscape, Schönfeld-Weißig clearly stands out from most of the other districts in Dresden, which are located in the Elbe valley basin. With the Triebenberg, the highest point of the Saxon state capital is also located here 15 km east of the city center at an altitude of 384 m.
